Newman’s Ideas According to Newman, the â€Å"Idea of a University† is the one and only true way to persevere and become successful in life. . He urges the common public to live the college life and raise their level of education and intellect. His philosophies inspire me to pursue my passion for computers and start a career in computer programming. He, too, has inspired many to become scholars and raise the level of society as a whole. His concepts should be considered highly by all for a better quality of life, and a better tomorrow. It is a known fact; the majority of people who do not attend college, do not experience success in their future. Therefore, my goal in life is to follow Newman’s Idea of a University and aim for a higher education. Another one of my goals is to achieve social and economic stability so that I can live a comfortable life. I want to be able to adapt myself to any given situation, just like any other educated person would be able to according to Newman’s ideas. Without a college education, the common public is not prepared for life. According to Newman’s idea, the purpose of a university is to â€Å"cultivate the mind.† He states that, just because any given person is specialized in one major, doesn’t mean that he or she dose not know about other subjects. A university is a community which learns from each other. Therefore, the members of the university pick up information from other individuals in the same community. This allows everyone to learn about a variety of subjects; as a result, all members become more educated in a wide range of topics. Receiving an education at a university is one of the most positive changes that can take place in an individual’s life. This can totally redirect the direction in which someone is headed and change their future. There focus was on the United States and they showed how the media forms the identity of women and girls to create goals for beauty that are impossible for them to attain. This focus on a beauty they cannot obtain forces girls as early as 14 year old to look for solutions to change their body to make it like what it is "supposed" to look like. Plastic surgeons report that many children of this age want to use plastic surgery to reshape them into the "ideal woman". The authors quote research that shows that college students who were shown pictures of beautiful models felt that they were to look like these models. Because they did not, their self image decreased. This is good example of how women are molded, shaped and brainwashed into accepting these stereotyped images and it gives them a lesser place in society than what men experience. Another study cited showed that males and females saw attractiveness differently. For adolescent girls self-perception declined over time but the boys kept their self-perception in tact. A reason for this that the authors gave was that boys tended to see their bodies as a work in progress and were able to see a bigger picture. More Than â€Å"Kiddy† Stuff: An In Depth Look At Fairy Tales. Esteemed German poet Johann Schiller insists, â€Å"Deeper meaning resides in the fairy tales told me in my childhood than in any truth that is taught in life" (â€Å"Fairy† 1). Fairy tales are unique because they focus all which is moral and corrupt into a short, compact story. The story directly arrives to the plot leaving nothing to ponder. From there, fairy tales branch out and explore each superior characteristic a person should obtain and their opposites. The tales are usually meant for young children, but they are exceedingly beneficial to all ages; however, children benefit more from the abstract reason of thought these provide. Recent studies prove, â€Å"[. . .] children deprived of fantasy may develop nightmares and suffer emotional delays† (Melvin 1). Since the tales are universal, they can be adapted to teach or explain any given lesson in life. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (1991) portrays a complete transformation by Beast, which can be relat ed to life in countless ways. At first, Beast is disliked and feared by the characters around him because of his appearance. When desperate Maurice wanders into Beast’s castle, he is treated Beast storms down to the room where Maurice waits unexpectedly the moment he learns a stranger has entered his castle. Without welcome to the stranger, Beast begins interrogating Maurice in a derogative manner, â€Å"Who are you? What are you doing here?† With Maurice in a stupor, Beast’s fangs flash, and his large shadow floods the wall. Beast appears jagged and uneven, his mane and fur unkempt. Maurice is terrified because inches away stands a beast twice the size of a man, with talons for nails and fangs for teeth. Beast’s warm, stale breath saturates Maurice, and they stand unchanged for an instant. Before Belle takes her father’s place as prisoner to Beast, she asks to see Beast in the light. He steps forward lighting his dog-like features and Belle is aghast. She covers her mouth with her hand because she cannot believe she is taking her father’s place for this monster. Although they may not hold important business data, support integrated real-time computing, failure of which would cause huge financial losses, but the personal computer holds data that is most of the time extremely personal and valuable at a personal level. In case of a system failure, theft or software corruption, extremely important data can be lost and recovery can cost a fortune.Valuable data on PC’s include bank records and other financial information, memorable photographs, software purchased and downloaded off the Internet, music purchased and downloaded from the Internet, personal work projects, your e-contact book, organizers and schedules, internet browser bookmarks and any other important irreplaceable information. Most of them end up in the wrong hands; people who misuse personal information. What can be done with this information can be fretful thought for owners. Recovering data has its threats as well.This brings up privacy issues and the threat of data duplication during the recovery process. All these factors contribute towards the importance of PC data back up. Frequency of Backup This concept is relative. Some people are more active PC users than others. They may work from home and/or perform important daily activities on the computer. Some use it for daily communication or use the PC as an entertainment center. The more frequent the PC use, the m ore frequent the data backup should be.All important files that are used most frequently, or are more frequently changed or altered, like journals, photo albums, browsing bookmarks, documents and cat-logs, should be backed up and updated as frequent as the change. Since my use of the PC consists of daily high frequency assignment and communication use, I decide to backup my important files daily at a specific time or after every time changes are made to a significant file. Automatic schedules are effective but they need special dedicated software aimed towards backup and data protection.I currently do not have any such software; therefore I plan on backing up my data manually. This allows me total flexibility. Although I have programmed backup reminders on my computer to make sure I do no forget my daily backup update. The update will consist of the simple copy pasting of the concerned files and folders and overwriting so that the most updated version is backed up and saved. Medium The device I use for back up is a simple flash memory drive. It has several advantages; firstly it is safe and non-volatile.It does not get corrupted easily and the silicon medium is quite durable. Flash drives can even survive being submerged in water and can be used after dried out for a certain period of time. Secondly, it is a cheap medium. With higher capacity models coming in every month, the previous ones get cheaper drastically; I currently have one with a capacity of 16 Gigabytes. One can also own several flash drives. They also allow quick and seamless data transfer. Lastly, they are portable and easy to carry around, easy to use and totally hassle free. CritiqueThe outlined plan is quite fool-proof and has no advantages except one threat; the portability and scale of the USB flash drive can also cause it to be stolen, misplaced or lost. This can cause the important data to be fallen in to the wrong hands or get destroyed. If the drive is protected and taken care of, then the back up plan can be very effective and convenient. As the play goes, Macbeth shows a character of free will. Although his destiny was pre-determined for him by the witches, he took action to believe and to make sure that his prophecies will come true. Macbeth is a strong character with many deep desires that include gaining power, and so throughout the play with the many crimes he had committed, there was no turning back for him. In all, his decisions help shape the future ahead of him. First off, Macbeth encounters the witches and gets a sense of his future of having power as a king. That information gives off a craving for his deepest desire and it influences his actions to deliberately make his future come true.
